The highly anticipated American Horror Story spin-off, aptly titled American Horror Stories, is here, and fans of the original will be pleased. This new series is anthology, like its predecessor, but it changes narratives episode to episode instead of season to season. And for episode one (and two; it’s a two-parter), American Horror Stories decided to pay tribute to Murder House, a.k.a. the first season of American Horror Story

Yes, we’re back in the house that once haunted Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott, but this time we have new characters and a new story. Matt Bomer (who starred in AHS: Hotel) plays Michael, whose husband and daughter, Scarlett (Sierra McCormick), move into Murder House with the hopes of flipping it into a haunted exhibition. They don’t believe in ghosts, though—which, obviously, is any horror character’s fatal flaw.

And for this family it’s fatal. One day Scarlett discovers the iconic Rubber Man costume in the house and, as one does, puts it on. After that, she starts having…murderous urges. Watch the episodes to find out what I mean (and also to see Paris Jackson).

Fans are loving it. “Words cannot describe the childish glee I felt when they panned up the camera to reveal Murder House in the first minutes of American Horror Stories,” one person tweeted.

American Horror Stories genuinely is making me feel like I’m watching Murder House for the first time in a really really good way,” wrote another.

Indeed, these episodes of American Horror Stories are similar to Murder House, and not just because of the actual, well, Murder House. Like all Ryan Murphy–produced confections, American Horror Stories is a mix of genuine horror, camp, and pop-culture references. But Murder House, specifically, relied on classic horror tropes, as do the first two episodes of American Horror Stories. You’ll be entertained, of course, but you’ll also be scared. Proceed with caution.

American Horror Stories is now streaming on Hulu.
