FX's hit anthology series American Horror Story brought a new era of horror filmmaking to our TV screens, and also set off mega-producer Ryan Murphy's American Story franchise that has grown to include American Crime Story and two more spinoffs in development.

Now, spooky season is starting early this year, with the 10th season of American Horror Story, subtitled Double Feature, premiering later this month. To mark the show's 10th anniversary, Season 10 of AHS will be present two terrifying horror stories in one season. Double Feature also sees the return of multiple AHS alums from early seasons, and we expect plenty of easter eggs from the series' 10 year history.

Though Murphy has kept most details of the show secret, minus some cryptic teasers, a new trailer for Season 10 released Friday gives us a hint at the season's first part. Here's what we know so far about American Horror Story Season 10.

American Horror Story: Double Feature premieres August 25 on FX.

FX announced last June that American Horror Story: Double Feature will premiere on Wednesday, August 25, at 10 pm EST. The show will air Wednesday nights on FX, and will be available to stream the next morning on Hulu. The 10-episode season will air throughout September and October, with a finale on October 27, right before Halloween.

The cast is mostly made up of AHS alums, with some new faces.

Many of American Horror Story's most famous alums are returning for Double Feature. The queen and king of the Ryan Murphy cinematic universe, Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters respectively, are coming back to the series after not appearing in Season 9 (1984). Multi-season alums Lily Rabe, Frances Conroy, Finn Wittrock, and Leslie Grossman will also appear. Angelica Ross will also return for her second AHS season, after joining the series in Season 9.

As for newcomers, Home Alone actor Macaulay Culkin and model Kaia Gerber will join the series in Double Feature. Here's the full cast list:

  • Finn Wittrock

  • Lily Rabe

  • Ryan Kiera Armstrong

  • Frances Conroy

  • Evan Peters

  • Sarah Paulson

  • Billie Lourd

  • Angelica Ross

  • Leslie Grossman

  • Macaulay Culkin

  • Kaia Gerber

Double Feature is a two-part story.

As the title suggests, AHS Season 10 will include two horror stories in one season. Early teasers said that Part 1: Red Tide will be set by the sea, while Part 2: Death Valley is set by the sand. FX chairman John Landgraf told Deadline that the season will be split between two features, with the first one spanning six episodes and the second making up the last four episodes.

The first trailer for Double Feature only shows events from Part 1: Red Tide, which takes place in a quiet seaside community. A writer (Wittrock), his pregnant wife (Rabe), and their daughter (TK) move to Provincetown, MA, which seems like "the perfect place to work without distraction," according to the wife. The town begins to seem more sinister over time, with the writer getting mixed up two locals, played by Evan Peters and Frances Conroy, who pull a gun on him in one scene. Meanwhile, his wife grows concerned about the family's safety, saying that "something weird is going on."

Angelica Ross, Leslie Grossman, and Macaulay Culkin also feature in Part I. FX has yet to release any details about Part 2.

The teasers feature a classic alien and a humanoid monster with sharp teeth.

The posters and teasers for AHS usually showcase each season's monster in a cryptic and unsettling fashion. For Season 10, the promotional artwork has focused on two monsters, an old-school green alien with bulbous eyes and a white humanoid monster with sharp teeth.

In a teaser video released last month, the alien and monster exist in two different landscapes, with the monster seen swimming in water and the alien standing on dry land. With the two parts of Double Feature set by the sea and the sand, we can assume that each monster gets its own half of the season.

However, the monsters don't stay separate in the whole teaser. One shot shows the alien passing the monster a dark red pill through a kiss. There's also a scene where the two supernatural beings fight each other, with the alien dragging the monster along a dry landscape. The shots hints that Season 10's two storylines may intertwine or affect each other.

Other creepy details in the teaser include an empty road in winter, human skulls, dental instruments (going along with Murphy's teeth clue from last year), an alien probe, a lighthouse, and a violin made of meat.

Watch this space for updates.
