American Girl Is Re-Releasing Our Favorite Dolls, and We Can't Contain Our Excitement
American Girl is celebrating its 35th anniversary this month by re-releasing all six original historical characters.
The dolls will be available for sale in stores and online beginning May 4, 2021
Believe it or not, it’s been 35 years since American Girl started inspiring and empowering girls through their popular dolls and stories. In celebration of the brand’s big 35th anniversary, six original historical characters—Samantha Parkington, Kirsten Larson, Molly McIntire, Felicity Merriman, Addy Walker, and Josefina Montoya—will be re-released for purchase, just as fans remember.
So where can you buy Addy, Felicity, Josefina, Kirsten, Molly, and Samantha?
Ready to inspire a new generation of American Girl doll fans, all six characters are available on americangirl.com and in American Girl stores nationwide beginning Tuesday, May 4, until supplies last. The special 35th Anniversary Collections include the signature 18-inch doll, original outfit, authentic accessories, and the character’s first paperback book with a vintage cover—all packaged in a retro-inspired box—for $150.
Country Living talked to Jamie Cygielman, General Manager of American Girl, and she had this to say: “These beloved characters have occupied a special place in the hearts of our fans and in pop culture over the past 35 years,” Jamie says. “It’s a perfect time to rekindle favorite American Girl memories and stories, while inspiring a whole new generation with these amazing heroines.”
Jamie continues that looking ahead, the company is committed to telling stories that are relevant to the interests and issues girls face today. "Many of our more recent historical characters have been set in the late 20th century—from the '60s, '70s, and even the 1980s with Courtney Moore (though I know it’s shocking to think of the ‘80s as historical!)," she says. "We know these more recent time periods are striking a chord with girls and their parents and grandparents—creating a very fun and emotional bonding experience." (No doubt that the reintroduction of the original Addy, Felicity, Josefina, Kirsten, Molly, and Samantha will create bonding and lasting memories too!)
