American Girl doll slammed for trivial 'struggle' compared to others
American Girl dolls have been inspiring countless young people since they were first launched in 1986, but that doesn’t mean they’re all on the same level. Each historical doll is modeled after a fictional girl who lived through a major event from the past, like the Great Depression or the Revolutionary War. There are also Girl of the Year dolls who have faced various challenges that correspond with each year since 2001. For example, the 2020 Girl of the Year, Joss Kendrick, navigates the surfing world with hearing loss. TikTok user @katie_v_b called attention to the 2019 Girl of the Year doll, Blaire Wilson, whose “struggle” was, well, not exactly up to par with those who survived various wars. “Blaire’s struggle is that she loves cooking, but she’s lactose intolerant,” she explained while cracking up. Some commenters were not impressed with her plot line.
