American Airlines Now Flies to What Travel + Leisure Considers the 'Best-kept Secret' of the Bahamas

The airline now has a nonstop route to Eleuthera in the Bahamas.

American Airlines now offers nonstop service to Eleuthera — an island touted as the best-kept secret in the Bahamas by Travel + Leisure.

On Saturday, Feb. 3, the airline inaugurated flying nonstop service to Governor’s Harbour Airport in Eleuthera from its major Miami hub, which serves as a gateway for all of its Caribbean and Latin American flights. The new Miami to Governor’s Harbour service will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays on a year-round basis.

Governor’s Harbour Airport has recently been renovated with upgraded arrival and departure facilities, which has allowed airlines like American to begin commercial service, according to The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.

Eleuthera is a remote paradise famed for its luxury resorts and pink sands, and the capital, Governor’s Harbour, is situated in the middle of the 110-mile island. American also operates a twice-daily service between Miami and North Eleuthera Airport, which is one of three airports serving the entire island (in addition to Governor’s Harbour Airport and Rock Sound International Airport).

Supplementing the Governor’s Harbour and North Eleuthera, American also flies elsewhere in the Bahamas to Nassau, New Providence; Freeport, Grand Bahama; George Town, Exuma, and Marsh Harbour, Abaco.

American continues to ramp up its Caribbean routes, with up to 3x-daily flying from Miami to Anguilla, Turks and Caicos, and beyond. The airline also has plans for many new international flights this year, as American will begin flying from its main Dallas-Fort Worth hub to Brisbane and Rio de Janeiro later this year.
