AMC Theatres and Regal Cinemas Screen Sensory-Friendly Movies for Those with Autism and Other Disorders Nationwide

"Movie night!" doesn't necessarily have the positive connotation for those with autism or a sensory processing disorder and their families and loved ones.

To change that, AMC Theatres and Regal Cinemas — which both operate movie theaters nationally — have begun offering special movie screenings to cater to those with autism and other special needs conditions.

As SimpleMost reported, AMC Theatres has partnered with the Autism Society to screen sensory-friendly movies on the second and fourth Saturday (family-friendly) and Tuesday evenings (mature audiences) every month. To check local availability, you can visit this site for showtimes and theatres.

At Regal Cinemas, guests can enjoy the "My Way Matinee" experience on the second and fourth Saturday every month. See a list of participating theaters here.

At both movie theater companies, the sensory-friendly screenings feature lower sound and brighter lights to make the experience more enjoyable for autistic individuals and those with other sensory processing issues. During the shows, guests are free to move around, shout, sing, cry, and dance to their hearts' delights.
