Ambush Resort 2023
Yoon Ahn looked to the ebullience of club culture in 1990s in Tokyo – where the label is based – to inform Ambush’s unisex Workshop pre-collection.
“It’s about finding really good remixes and going with the flow,” she said, comparing the mélange of references involved in the collection with the work of a deejay sampling tunes from the past.

Roomy sportswear pieces were designed for dancing, in cotton and technical fabrics, with a color palette of khaki, navy and black accentuated with acid shades. A plethora of ultra-wide cargo pants was teamed with boxy short-sleeved shirts and bodice tops, with the odd down jacket and tailored piece thrown in. There were heart cutout placements and embellishments echoing the jewelry pieces that were the label’s starting point.
Indeed, these were among the archival references that also served as inspiration for the collection, Ahn explained. “We did a lot of archive digging, looking at pieces from the past,” she said, nodding to the heart motif and multi-colored pill designs that punctuated the collection. “It’s quite strange, starting to archive, it kind of felt like sampling old records.”
