Amber Heard Has Hired a New Legal Team to Represent Her

Amber Heard refuses to back down after the court awarded her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, more than $10 million in their defamation trial.

Heard has filed to appeal the verdict, but this time she has a new team backing her. The Aquaman actress is replacing her trial lawyer, Elaine Bredehoft, and is leaning into the constitution as she gears up to go against Depp.

Her new lawyers include First Amendment attorneys David Axelrod and Jay Ward Brown. The two have experience with representing The New York Times in a successful battle between the outlet and Sarah Palin.

With Axelrod and Brown joining the legal team, it's apparent that the First Amendment aspect will be the center of Heard's appeal. Alexrod and Brown released a joint statement noting, “We welcome the opportunity to represent Ms. Heard in this appeal as it is a case with important First Amendment implications for every American.”

They continued: “We’re confident the appellate court will apply the law properly without deference to popularity, reverse the judgment against Ms. Heard, and reaffirm the fundamental principles of Freedom of Speech.”

Although Bredehoft and Heard are parting ways after the dramatic saga, there are no hard feelings as the Virginia-based trial attorney mentioned it's standard practice to hire a new legal team for an appeal.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Bredehoft mentioned, "We strongly recommended that here, and we have been assisting Ms. Heard in the process of interviewing and finding her counsel." She noted that an appeal with a new legal team adds a "fresh perspective" and benefits from having a "new set of eyes." 

Ben Rottenborn will remain as co-counsel during the appeal process.
