It's been 10 months since Amber Heard and Elon Musk ended their relationship for good, but in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor says that they're still close. Though they're not dating, Heard says that the two have a "beautiful friendship."

Heard explains that the two bonded over a slew of similarities, which went beyond science to include other intellectual pursuits and "curiosity, ideas, and conversation." That wasn't enough to keep the romance going, especially after a very public breakup in August 2017, a subsequent reconciliation, and then another breakup in February of the next year.

"Elon and I had a beautiful relationship, and we have a beautiful friendship now, one that was based on our core values," she told THR. "We just bonded on a lot of things that speak to who I am on the inside. I have so much respect for him."

She continued, saying that they remain close friends. And about those very public meltdowns? She knows all about them, simply saying, "He's not boring."

Nothing about their relationship could be considered boring. The two joined forces after weathering breakups. Heard had divorced from Johnny Depp in 2016 and Musk had separated from his wife, Westworld's Talulah Riley, just a year before that. Even after their official separation, Musk and Heard have been seen together, most recently in Australia three months post-breakup.

"Elon decided it was time to end it and Amber agreed," a source told People. "They both still care deeply for each other but the timing wasn’t right."

Staying true to his non-boring reputation, Musk gave an interview a few months after the breakup that said quite the opposite. Not surprising with this enigmatic couple.

"Well, she broke up with me more than I broke up with her, I think," Musk said in an interview with Rolling Stone. "I was really in love, and it hurt bad."
