Amazon's new Kindle Scribe just hit a record-low price — just $240 for Black Friday

We love our Kindles. How else can you transport a library's worth of books in something that weighs less than a paperback? The Kindle Scribe expands on that idea with an included pen that lets you mark up your books as you read — ideal for taking notes or highlighting your favorite passages. It makes a great daily planner too! With Christmas on the horizon, we can't think of a better gift. Plus, this baby's on sale for its lowest price ever — just $240 (down from $340) with Prime. There are also a lot of bundles on sale for a double-whammy gift.

With a 10.2-inch screen and a Paperwhite display, this feels more like a good ol' magazine than an e-reader.

What makes this a great Black Friday deal?

The Scribe is the newest Kindle on the market, and one of the coolest. This is also the most affordable it has ever been, so don't let this amazing gift idea pass you by.

Why do I need this?

The Scribe is a bit different from existing Kindles. For one, it has a larger section on the left side so you can easily grip it, versus others that have thin and narrow bezels. Want to know what it's like to use? Our own Rick Broida wrote a full review of the Scribe, and said, "I like the Scribe even more now than I did at launch."

One of its cool features is that you can open a digital sticky note and actually write down your thoughts — with a pen! — on whatever you're reading, whether it's a nonfiction self-help book or just a particularly compelling bit of fiction. (The necessary pen is included.)

The Paperwhite display is easy on the eyes, allowing you to read for hours on end without feeling the sting of blue light — especially if you read in bed (like so many of us do.)

The 16GB Kindle Scribe is enough to house Beast's entire library — and still be easy on Belle's eyes.

What reviewers say

It also makes a great planner, fans say. "In a nutshell, I thoroughly enjoy planning my day in advance on the Kindle Scribe. In my Daily Plan notebook, I'm able to create a custom planning page (with block scheduling, To Dos and Notes) in about 30 seconds, and then I consult and update my plan in the Scribe throughout my day," said one five-star reviewer. "For a number of reasons, I find it much more engaging and useful than a paper notebook. For one thing, I can erase just by pushing a button on the pen, so I'm able to keep my to-do list and notes neat and uncluttered. I can access my various notebooks on my phone or any device that has the Kindle app, so my notebooks are always with me. And writing on the device is simply enjoyable with the paper-like screen, the eraser, and the different pens and thicknesses."

"My first Kindle was a DX, and I’ve owned every version of the Kindle since then," another user said. "I tried the ReMarkable for note-taking but found I wasn’t keeping it with me as much. The Scribe is not only better than the ReMarkable as a note-taking device, but it has my whole Kindle library in large format. I love the larger reading format, especially when flying on a plane. I used to use an iPad but the Kindle reading experience is much better. Plus, having the ability to read and take notes (and then access them from the Kindle app on iPhone or iPad) makes it much more compelling to keep it with me when I travel and to use for note taking."

"While the large screen size was a primary reason for purchasing, it does have the downside of creating a larger device that is hard to read in bed at night," another wrote.

If you've been waiting for this device to go on sale, now's your chance to pounce!

The 16GB can hold thousands of books. Need more space? There are larger capacity versions available, too.
