This Amazon Prime Day, I'm Finally Buying a Soda Stream

Seltzer. All the time.

Prepare your tiny violin because I am about to tell you a very sad story. Last Christmas, I told everyone I wanted a SodaStream. My mom. My dad. My friend with a trust-fund. At one point, I actually began to have anxiety that I would receive more than one SodaStream gift for the holiday. I began to think about contingency plans for returning them or giving them away to other friends. Christmas came and...

I received no SodaStream.

My friends and family didn't just sabotage me by not purchasing a SodaStream. They hurt our environment. Think of all of the La Croix and Spindrift cans we could have saved. (I know I'm speaking in a lighthearted manner about the environment! I assure you, I feel very seriously anxious about it. I feel massive guilt about my seltzer consumption.)

I'm happy to announce that I've persevered through this difficult time, and am ready to take matters into my own hands. I'm going to buy myself the SodaStream I deserve—and I'm going to savvily do it while it's on sale for the only holiday that's more of a win for capitalism than Christmas, Amazon Prime Day.

SodaStream makes a few different models of water carbonators, but the model that's on sale is the most basic one, the Jet. When you think of a standard SodaStream, you're probably thinking of the Jet. It's the most popular SodaStream on Amazon with 1,941 customer reviews. The Jet starter kit comes with a BPA-free reusable bottle and a mini CO2 cylinder that can make up to nine liters of seltzer. When you order one, you also get a mail-in rebate for a free 14.5-ounce CO2 cylinder that yields 60 liters of seltzer. The main difference in SodaStream machines is in how you carbonate your water, and the Jet relies on a pretty basic guess-and-check method: after twisting and locking the bottle into the machine, you push the control button any number of times until you reach your desired carbonation level (the machine will make a loud "pop" noise when it's ready). The Jet is good for first-time SodaStream owners who aren't sure how regularly they'll use their machine (though I know I'll be using mine every day).

What are my plans for my SodaStream? Seltzer! And lots of it. Seltzer when I first wake up in the morning. Seltzer after a long summer walk through Brooklyn. Seltzer before I go to bed at night. Seltzer in cocktails. Seltzer mixed with just a little bit of juice for a homemade Spindrift situation. Seltzer all the time. No cans will be harmed in the process. The world is saved. Now, I just have to figure out where I'm going to store it in my 400-square-foot apartment.
