Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper are set to star in a new film from American Hustle writer Eric Warren Singer that follows two spies in the Cold War.

The film is an adaptation of Eric Dezenhall and Greg Russo's book Best of Enemies: The Last Great Spy Story of the Cold War about Jack Platt (Bradley Cooper) and Gennady Vasilenko (Christian Bale).

The package had eight bidders in the mix for the film pitch, and Deadline dropped the exclusive that it came down to the wire with Amazon and Warner Bros. Ultimately, Amazon MGM Studios won out with a high-seven-figure deal for the writer and producer.

It is set for a theatrical release with Charles Roven producing. Madison Weireter and Ryan Sanak also join the production team on behalf of Atlas.

A piece of trivia is that Robert De Niro, who also starred alongside Bale and Cooper in American Hustle, advocated for the real-life Vasilenko during his incarceration.

Will he join the cast to star as himself? Time will tell.
