Right now, you can pick up a pair of second-generation Apple AirPods with a wired charging case for just $119.99 on Amazon. Now that everyone is busy speculating about the forthcoming new generation of AirPods, this is a great time to take advantage of significant markdowns on previous models.
We saw these second-gen AirPods retailing for $10 cheaper than Amazon’s current price during last year’s holiday shopping season, but 25% off is definitely a solid deal for the middle of the year.
To Wait or Not to Wait?
If you’re on the fence about whether or not to wait for the new AirPods, it might help if you think about which features and design elements matter to you — and which you can do without. Allegedly inspired by the 2019 AirPods Pro, third-generation AirPods will likely emphasize noise-cancellation and spatial audio, similar to that of AirPods Max and Apple’s stiff competition in the wireless earbud arena. These discounted second-gen earbuds do not have these features. The older model of ANC-enabled AirPods Pro seldom falls below $150, so it goes without saying that the new generation will be expensive and you are unlikely to see a major deal for a while.
