Amazon's Website Crashed as Prime Day Was Starting

“I just saved a bunch of money by having Amazon crash right as prime day shopping was starting.”

Amazon Prime Day got off to a rough start this afternoon, as the much-anticipated round-up never really got off the ground. When the clock struck 3pm EST, several Prime members, ourselves included, kicked off the starting blocks with as much shopping energy as we imagine a sprinter has gas in the tank when running a race. But, as quickly as we began our deep-dive, we ran into a little bit of a brick wall. That is, a screen that featured one of a handful of sad-looking puppies that read “uh-oh, something went wrong on our end.” Yes it did, Amazon. Yes it did.

So, as any savvy shopper would do, we headed over to Twitter to make sure that it was, indeed, Amazon's mishap and not any one of the three separate internet browsers we tried. As it turns out, #PrimeDown has quickly turned into quite the trending topic. One user quickly took to the social media to write, “Prime Day crashed Amazon. To be fair, they had an entire year to prep for this.” Another hysterically wrote, “I just saved a bunch of money by having amazon crash right as prime day shopping was starting.” And, some have acknowledged the adorable puppies, but still venting about the lack of shopping that has caused the cuteness, sharing, “Amazon Prime day already crashing and they’re trying to calm me down with this puppy. It’s half working."

Unfortunately, while we’d love to be able to bring you a sale round-up (which will hopefully come soon!) the site is still not up and running. Not exactly the way we imagine Amazon planned it, but Twitter is definitely offering up some stellar mid-afternoon enjoyment as a result.
