This Amazing Outdoor Stove Is a Cooktop, Grill, Pizza Oven, and Fire Pit in One
Even a cursory flip through your favorite cooking catalog reveals that we are deep in the midst of a golden age for kitchen appliances, with an ever-expanding array of products that are, in the words of some pop elder statesmen, harder, better, faster, stronger, and much cooler looking than their predecessors. Their outdoor counterparts, on the other hand, seem to have dropped the ball—technology has improved, but the design tends to stick to hulking stainless steel grills, retro backyard cookers, and unsightly pig boxes. So say, "Oh, hello!" to the multifunctional Noori stove, a pill-shaped heat-resistant cement vessel that is equal parts cooktop, barbecue grill, pizza oven, and fire pit. b
A separate combustion chamber allows for clean burning of smaller logs (though you can also use charcoal for more traditional grilling) while an enamel pipe in the stove’s interior directs heat up to the surface, providing scorching heat for everything from bubbling dutch ovens to open-air kebabs without all the smoke. And a series of modular accessories— cast-iron grates for grilling, a pizza stone, and a cover with built-in thermometer for smoking, among others—lets you jump between options with ease. Another bonus: the stove rests on a tripod with casters, making transport around your yard a snap.
But the stove is also highly sculptural and expertly designed to add beauty to any backyard space. Inspired by utilitarian rocket stoves, the concept is the brainchild of Brazilian designers and engineers Eduardo Gavotto, Plinio Ruschi, and Pedro Heldt, who claim that “the idea was to design a product that could transport us from our day-to-day routine and excessive information flow to a time when fire and cooking with fire was at the core of our rituals.” With a design this efficient and good-looking, those days may be back again.
