A doctor is being called “amazing” after a photo of him holding a patient’s baby in a New Zealand hospital went viral.

Waikato Hospital shared a photo on Facebook of Dr. Muir Wallace, who’s the head of the emergency room, cuddling the baby with the caption, “Sometimes all you need is a hug.”

A representative from the hospital named Mike continued, revealing that the “little guy was here with his mum and badly needed a snooze. Sadly, his mum was unwell and needed some tests.”

Mike added “several people” tried to calm the baby down but Wallace was the only one “able to settle him.”

For about an hour, the doctor multi-tasked by cradling the baby boy all while carrying out his normal duties. “Just an example of the small kindnesses that happen every day that often go unnoticed,” Mike wrote.

The photo has more than 3,300 likes with many praising Wallace. One woman wrote it’s just another example of Dr. Wallace going above and beyond. She claims he helped look after her son after he burnt his face recently. “Thank you doctor for all the kind work you and your team do,” she wrote.

Another person described the photo as “touching, heart-warming and adorable,” adding, “We often don’t give enough credit to doctors and nurses for the work they do.”
