Amandla Stenberg's Mission Cover Makes Me Want Two-Toned Jumbo Box Braids

Amandla Stenberg first captured our hearts in 2012 with her breakout role as Rue in The Hunger Games. Since then, she has shown her versatility as an actor, activist, and beauty icon. (There's a reason why Rihanna picked her as a Fenty Face.) It's all this and more that made Mission magazine put her on the cover of its fourth issue.

On July 8, the publication dropped the cover on its Instagram as a short video. Stenberg smizes for the camera, and you can hear an audio recording of her voice. She says, "My vision of the future is one in which it’s our primary responsibility to subvert the bigotry we have all internalized in order to afford everyone the love they are deserving of."

On the cover, she is wearing a blue-striped, greige blazer with both a striped button-up shirt and gray tie. Her hair is in chunky, two-toned blonde box braids that were styled and installed by Vernon François. The hairstyle combines lighter platinum blonde kanekalon hair with a darker honey-blonde version.

To create the style, François spritzed her hair with the Mist Nourishing Water from his hair-care line for hydration and added Love Lotta Body's Wrap Me Foaming Mousse to give it some hold. He slicked down her edges with the Diamond Edges Edge Control.

Her makeup starts with a flawless and natural base. Her eyes are definitely the focus of this look. She wears a thick, black cat eye with eyeliner on her lower lash line to match. She could probably fly away with these dramatically long and wispy lashes that almost reach her eyebrows.

As per usual, the star looks breathtaking in these photos. We can't wait to see what color she uses for her next set of box braids.
