Amal Clooney Wins Best Power Brows in Hollywood

Do power brows make the woman or does the powerful woman make the brows? In the case of Vogue's May cover star, Amal Clooney’s pristine arches are something of a beauty signature. After all, strong female icons before her—Cleopatra, Frida Kahlo, Pina Bausch—have all crafted their brows as a symbol of their greatness, and Clooney is no exception. For the British-Lebanese human rights lawyer, who was born in Beirut but grew up in England, whether presenting a case at the United Nations or stepping onto a red carpet with husband, George Clooney, has made her mark with a pair of perennially powerful brows.

From clerking at the International Court of Justice to becoming a dual-qualified barrister in England, then a fashion fixture in Hollywood, Clooney has long sported her uniquely expressive arches—way before full brows were ever in vogue. Even in a famously surfaced graduation photo wearing a traditional white, curly-haired wig, the human rights activist's perfectly placed set stand out from the rest. Always well groomed and subtly filled in—likely with a dark brown pencil from longtime makeup artist and friend, Charlotte Tilbury—the impressive humanitarian, author, and mother of twins continues to prove that brows are but one symbol of a successful woman.
