From Town & Country

Meghan Markle counts Amal Clooney, internationally-acclaimed barrister and other half of the Clooney-Almuddin marriage, as one of her close friends. Clooney was even one of the few to attend the Duchess's lavish baby shower in New York City, so it's only natural that the two women should trade personal style secrets. Specifically: where they get their exquisite vintage threads.

Amal (alongside her husband George) attended a dinner celebrating the Prince's Trust International, which was hosted by Prince Charles on Tuesday, March 12. For the Buckingham Palace event, she wore an exquisite white jersey Grecian-style cape and Jen-Louis Scherrer by Stephane Rolland gown from Spring/Summer 2007, which she procured from London's very own William Vintage.

But Amal isn't the only one to have worn vintage designs curated by the famed dealer. Recently, the Duchess of Sussex has too. When Meghan Markle hopped across the pond to celebrate her baby shower last month, she too wore a piece picked up at William Vintage. In the case of the Duchess of Sussex it was a Courrèges Haute Couture black trapeze coat in matelassé silk circa 1965.

As it happens though, Clooney also wore William Vintage pieces during her pregnancy with twins Alex and Ella, who were born in 2017. According to the dealer's Instagram, Clooney wore an ivory suit with brown vinyl trim (circa 1965) while on a trip to Paris on February 25, 2017.

Might Clooney have passed her maternity dressing tip on to the expectant Duchess of Sussex? There's no way to know for sure. But vintage dressing does fall within Markle's penchant for sustainable choices with her ensembles. Not only is the Duchess of Sussex known for wearing eco-friendly shoes, such as Rothy's, but she's also sported a number of socially conscious labels like Reformation and Outland denim.

An Amal-Meghan stamp of approval certainly does give a trip to the vintage store extra appeal, though. And while most of us might not be able to mosey on over to Marylebone to pick up exquisitely curated gowns and coats from William Vintage, there is hope: they run satellite stores on both 1stdibs and through Farfetch.
