Alyssa Milano's 12-Year-Old Son Is Getting Nasty Comments About His Baseball Fundraiser & His Response Is Heartbreaking

It all started with a simple donation request: “any amount” you could give for Alyssa Milano’s son Milo and his baseball team to go on a team trip to Cooperstown. Any parent of a child in sports could have done the same — with their uniforms, gear, snacks, and trips, it adds up! But ever since sharing the GoFundMe link for the 12-year-olds, Milano has been inundated with people angry that she is asking for money.

One day after posting the request, the Charmed alum gave an update: “I’m getting media inquiries about whether I have financially contributed to my son’s baseball team,” she wrote. “I’ve paid for uniforms for the entire team and coaches, thrown bday parties and sponsor any kid who can’t afford monthly dues. The kids also do fundraising themselves—car washes, movie nights, and many other fun things!”

She went on to thank everyone who had contributed, as it makes things “easier for these boys and their families.”

Backlash

Despite going above and beyond for her son’s baseball team, people are still mad that she didn’t cover the trip for all the players. And now, their hateful comments are coming for her son. Milano shared two screenshots of comments Milo got about the fundraiser on Instagram Thursday, and they will make your blood boil.

One nasty comment said in part that Milano “should not be asking middle income people from society to donate to a baseball team.” They added, “It’s beyond ridiculous and selfish of her. Talk to your mom.”

The pre-teen showed unbelievable grace in his response, writing back, “You do realize I’m only 12 and I love my mom.”

Milo continued, “My mom is the greatest human of all time. She does everything for everyone.” How completely sweet — and gut-wrenching that he is having to address these people at all. If you don’t want to donate, just keep scrolling?! Why people have to be so hateful is beyond me.

Another rude person wrote, “[Milano] clearly has the funds to have donated 10k to your baseball team herself. Asking the middle income public to help out is ridiculous!” I think commenting on a 12-year-old’s Instagram is ridiculous, but go off. Milo responded, “please get off my page. I’m only 12.”

‘Horrid’ Comments

“Every parent raises money for their child’s sports teams and many of them do so through GoFundMe. I am no different,” the Who Are You People star wrote in the caption. “As much as I’d love to pay for the entire team and their families for travel, transportation, hotel, food and beverage, uniforms, trading pins and all the things teams do for this kind of trip—I can not afford to do so. Maybe someday.”

She went on to call these messages “horrid” and asked people to stay off her “hardworking 12 year old son’s Instagram page.” Milano added, “Leave the kids alone. Let them play baseball. If you are against donating—don’t donate. If you’d like to donate to help the team’s families — we appreciate it—the link is in his bio.”

Milano shares Milo and daughter Elizabella, 8, with husband David Bugliari. All the backlash from this experience has led to one good thing though: Milano is using her large Twitter platform to share other important fundraisers of people who need money for their kids’ sports teams and to raise awareness about other cultural issues right now.

The Sorry Not Sorry author has been open about her fierce love for her kids. In a Nov. 2021 appearance on the Me Becoming Mom podcast, per Business Insider, Milano shared how motherhood has changed her.

“It definitely made me more loving. It made me more outraged. It made me more concerned for our planet. It really has been a revelation to find the true essence of who I am,” she said.

Milano added, “That is maybe the first lesson that a child will teach you: Whatever you think, whatever you plan for, that you have to be adaptable and be able to go with the flow and ride the wave.” And if that means sticking up for youth sports fundraisers, so be it!
