  • Alyssa Milano’s go-to shampoo for post-COVID hair loss is on over 60% off right now.

  • The actress swears by Nioxin’s Cleanser Shampoo and its accompanying three-step system for thicker hair.

  • She previously said the system, in combination with Nutrafol hair growth supplements, “helped tremendously.”

Alyssa Milano has been open and honest about her experience with long-haul COVID. The actress came down with the virus in March 2020, and is still dealing with lingering effects—the most annoying of which is hair loss, which happens after the body undergoes illness-related stress.

Thankfully, after some trial and error and help from her hairstylist, the actress found a few products that are bringing her tresses back to life. She shared the recommendations with Twitter last month, and her go-to restorative shampoo—Nioxin’s Cleanser Shampoo—is currently on sale on Amazon for 64% off. Yup, you read that right. The 33-ounce bottle is marked down from $43.50 to $15.66.

In combination with the shampoo, Milano said she uses Nioxin’s entire three-step system for thicker hair, including the Scalp Revitalizing Conditioner and Scalp and Hair Treatment, as well as the brand’s Hair Regrowth Treatment. The Charmed star said that these products, plus regular Nutrafol hair growth supplements “helped tremendously.”

Nioxin works because it uses advanced technology to provide real solutions for making the most of the hair you have, Keith R. Durante M.D. F.A.C.S., a microvascular hair surgeon previously told Prevention. “It is primarily used to remove dirt and debris that can clog follicles and also excess sebum, which is an indicator of dihydroxy testosterone (DHT). DHT has been identified as one of the main culprits for genetic type hair loss, especially in men or women with hormonal imbalances,” he explained.

Nioxin contains nettle root extract, niacin, biotin, B vitamins, and saw palmetto, which can help combat DHT. “It is easy to use and safe; however, prolonged use is required before seeing any results,” Dr. Durante said. “It works only as long as you use it and it certainly doesn’t prevent genetic pattern baldness.”

In August 2020, Milano shared an Instagram video of her brushing her hair, displaying the abnormal amount that came out in the brush. That's when her hairstylist Linh Nguyen intervened. “I told Alyssa, ‘Stop brushing your hair, we’re sending you Nioxin treatments right away,’” he previously told People.

After she began using the system, they were both more than pleased with what followed. “The best text I got this week was Alyssa saying her hair is doing much better and she’s continuing the Nioxin regimen,” Nguyen told People. “Her hair feels thicker and she’s happy with the results.”

The actress has sported a short bob cut since late last year, and just debuted a new pink hue this week. “Pink hair. Don’t care,” she captioned a selfie. This confirms that—long or short, blonde or pink, COVID hair loss or not—there is no hairstyle Milano can’t rock.
