Alta Ski Area Forced To Delay Opening Day

For the first time in recent memory, Alta Ski Area, UT has delayed their opening day.

The popular ski area made the somber announcement via social media on Saturday, November 11th that they would not open on Friday, November 17th, as previously planned. See the post featuring a picture of the sparsely-covered mountain below:

Alta's Winter '22/'23 season will go down as one of the greatest snow years in North American ski area history.

A monstrous 903 inches (75.25 ft.) of snow fell from October-May. The season got off to a hot start with over 100 inches falling before opening day on November 18th, 2022.

That's not been the case this year. Alta's website is currently reporting 33 inches on the season with a 14 inch base.

Alta Ski Area

It's a friendly reminder that Mother Nature giveth, and Mother Nature taketh. Even the mighty Alta Ski Area, who recorded almost enough snow to form Earth's third ice cap last season, isn't spared from her wrath.

Fear not, skiers. It's only November 12th. The snow will come, and powder days will be had. Enjoy shoulder season while you can and keep a patient eye on the forecasts.

Winter is coming!
