Aloe Blacc Wins Me Over At the Gucci Brunch

What do you get when you cross Pharrell Williams and John Legend? The R&B, Grammy-nominated singer, Aloe Blacc. On Saturday morning, even before my I had my coffee, I found myself front and center at the Sunset Tower Hotel in L.A. for a brunch hosted by Gucci Timepiece & Jewelry which had Aloe serenading the crowd. I must admit that I had no idea who he was, but damn he looked smoking in his Gucci black suit and a white tux jacket, complete with a very sophisticated hat! (Which seems to be every male singer’s favorite accessory!)

Aloe (full name Egbert Nathaniel Dawkins III, so let’s stick to Aloe) is a Californian native who found his true calling after being laid off years ago at Ernst & Young. Focusing on his true passion has fared him well. Not only is he a fabulous singer whose album, Lift Your Spirit, was nominated for a Grammy last year, but he’s also so dapper, smooth as butter, and so charming. I found myself tapping my feet along to his hits like, “I Need a Dollar” and “Wake Me Up.” I had no idea what the rest of the songs were, but I downloaded all of them the moment I left! At the brunch, Blacc said that he considers Joni Mitchell to be the best writer of love songs, and Pharrell and Dr. Dre to be his mentors. With his charming persona, smooth vibe, and sleek style, Aloe could certainly be the next music-meets-fashion golden boy.
