Alliance Coterie Club marks its 130th year
Members of the Alliance Coterie Club and their guests gathered May 2 to celebrate its 130th year.
Alliance’s oldest women’s organization was founded Feb. 22, 1894, which is the anniversary of George Washington’s birth.
The gathering at Alliance Country Club had a French theme, and club President Sally Lavery welcomed the 70 women on hand with a “Bienvenue.”
Lavery set the party theme with her welcome.
“It’s a beautiful day in Paris France and also in Alliance, Ohio,” she said in describing “Springtime in Paris.” “Flowering cherry trees of vibrant pinks and whites are in full bloom, the smell of the air is refreshing, and the sights and sound of lively crowds of the city are a buzz of excitement. Take time to climb the Eiffel Tower to see the beautiful Paris in all directions. Take a stroll around the city and stop at a French restaurant/café to have a delicious lunch. It’s a lovely day to be in Paris with Coterie members and their guests.”
Members of the anniversary committee were introduced – Nancy Castellucci, Debra Hatherill, Beth Mitchell and RuthAnn Rinto. Coterie members introduced themselves and their guests.
Following lunch, Lavery introduced Owen Hoopes, a 13-year-old violinist from Malvern who currently is taking lessons from Bohdan Subckak at University of Mount Union. He played a selection of French songs for guests.
One of the guests at the event, Hoopes’ mother Tiffany said it was the first time she had heard his performance of the French songs, as he kept them secret.
President, Debra Hatherill announced the final Coterie meeting will be hosted by Laura Mastroianni at 12:00 pm noon on May 16, at the Alliance Country Club.
