New Allegiant Air flights from metro Phoenix: Where you can go and how to get $50 flights

Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport is getting a new Allegiant Air route in time for the holidays.

Allegiant, the Las Vegas-based ultra-low-cost carrier, will begin flying to Portland, Oregon, from the east Mesa airport in November. It's one of six new routes nationwide the airline announced on July 11.

The new Portland flight will be Allegiant's 51st destination from Gateway Airport, where its flights comprise the vast majority of the airport's leisure travel business. From July 2022 to April 2023, the airport drew 1.6 million passengers; about 1.5 million flew with Allegiant, airport data showed.

The Mesa-Portland flight gives Gateway Airport some good news for the coming season after the losses of its flights from Canadian airlines.
