At the 2018 Golden Globes, the outfits are about more than just good style. Alison Brie wore black pants on the Golden Globes red carpet, and you’ll give her a standing ovation when you hear the reason why.

In case you missed it, actors of all genders are wearing black at tonight’s Golden Globes ceremony as part of the Time’s Up movement. It’s a symbolic gesture of solidarity with those who have spoken up about the epidemic of sexual harassment and abuse in Hollywood. Like with most modern movements, it has also spawned a hashtag: #WhyWeWearBlack.

Brie took things a step further and wore pants.

Well, it’s more of a dress-pants combination (and, yes, it has pockets!).

At first glance, this looks like your typical ballgown with a sweetheart neckline. Look closer, however, and you’ll notice that full skirt is obscuring the sleekest trouser leg you’ve ever laid eyes on. Hello.

The star had plenty to say about her decision to wear pants.

“Tonight is about women wearing the pants, so I’m literally wearing the pants,” she said during a red carpet interview, according to NY Daily News.

Brie also commented on her Netflix Show, Glow, telling E!, “Glow is the most amazing show to work on, and this has really been the year of strong women, women’s voices being heard, and Glow is absolutely about women empowering themselves, women taking up space in a room.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time a woman has worn pants on the red carpet. Nor does the decision to do so indicate that sexism in Hollywood is actually over. But we can certainly appreciate the social comment she’s making with this outfit.
