Teenager Alice feels out of place in her new school as the rumor mill churns. As she runs away from her frustrations, Alice ends up near a pond on her family's property. When she tosses a beloved piece of jewelry into the pond, she instantly regrets it and jumps in after it. When she surfaces, she finds herself in the past, talking to a teenage version of her mom! As she spends time with a teen Kat, she learns more about her family's past and what transpired to cause her mother's estrangement from her grandmother.

In "Scar Tissue," this week's episode of The Way Home, Kat considers an offer to write a book about her brother Jacob’s (Remy Smith) disappearance more than two decades prior, but Del wants to close that chapter and move on from the past. Meanwhile, with the guidance of Elliot (Evan Williams), Alice starts to piece together how the pond works as she yearns to return to the past.
