The comedian announced her divorce from Justin Hakuta in April 2022 after eight years of marriage.

Ali Wong is opening up about her divorce from ex-husband Justin Hakuta nearly one year after publicly announcing their split.

The former spouses, who shared the news of their divorce in April 2022, were married for eight years and share two children together: Mari Hakuta, born 2015, and Nikki Hakuta, born 2017.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 40-year-old comedian called her divorce with Hakuta "unconventional," noting that they're aren't just co-parents, but good friends as well.

"We're really, really close; we're best friends," she told the outlet in a feature published on Wednesday, March 1. "We've been through so much together. It's a very unconventional divorce."

Apparently the exes—who played pickleball with each other on the morning of Wong's interview—are even planning to travel together with their daughters on her upcoming tour in June, which is Wong's first time touring as a single woman since she started out her career. "I think we're going to call it the Single Lady tour," she quipped.

Also while talking about her divorce, Wong revealed that she was surprised by the media attention their split got, although that was nothing compared to what she said was "hardest part" of getting divorced: her mother's reaction.

"I had told her before that I thought we might get divorced, and she was really upset," the Always Be My Maybe star recalled. "She looked me in the eye and asked, 'Can you just wait till I die?' She was literally asking me to not live a life for myself."

"But she's 82, what do I expect? She hasn't had her period in 40 years. She's in the sha-ha-hallows of senior citizenship," she joked. "But it was still really f--king hard dealing with all her fear of the shame it would bring her."

"But then, what was kind of cool about the announcement was that she didn't have to tell any of her friends," Wong added. "All of them found out because it made it to a bunch of the Chinese and Vietnamese newspapers—I still can't believe why on earth they would be interested in me—and they all called her. She died a million deaths in one day and then woke up the next day and was like, 'I survived.'"

She also noted that her mother "still sees Justin a ton," as well.
