Alexis Mabille RTW Spring 2023

Dressing the TikTok generation is a growing priority for Alexis Mabille. It’s been several seasons since the designer decided that, rather than offering up a specific theme with his ready-to-wear, he would translate the old-world Hollywood glamour of his couture into easier to wear off-the-rack pieces, and that is increasingly relevant to younger consumers, he said at his presentation. “There’s a big young clientele that dresses up a lot, but that can’t afford couture,” he explained. The impact of that is playing out increasingly on social media.

Designed to have a big visual impact, the attention to detail and focus on high-end fabrications and materials is no less present in his ready-to-wear than in his couture pieces, however.

His tuxedo wrap gowns, shirtdresses and bow-topped showpieces came in a burnished color palette of bronze and gold this season, many full-skirted and made from fabrics like lamé and casimir. A demure cowl-necked white ottoman blouse was encrusted with Lyon lace — something the designer has been buying up to ensure supply in a difficult environment for small-scale producers — while a striped shirt dress was crafted from over-embroidered appliqué tulle for a more graphic, fluid look. Certain pieces were twinned with high-necked sequin bodysuits, updating the silhouette.
