Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez rocked the nation when she beat 10-term incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley in New York’s Democratic primary election, but fellow politicians are still doubting her qualifications.

In a recent video recorded at one of his campaign events this weekend, Republican Rep. Ron DeSantis was seen saying, "You look at this girl Ocasio-Cortez or whatever she is, I mean, she’s in a totally different universe. It’s basically socialism wrapped in ignorance." He later says, "You're just repeating these canned left-wing talking points, and you're somehow the savior of the Democratic Party? Good lord."

DeSantis is currently running for governor in Florida (with the support of Donald Trump), and the spokesman for his campaign told HuffPost that DeSantis' comments were "expanding on the importance of education" and that teaching about the Constitution might "prevent more socialists like Ocasio-Cortez calling for 'free' everything," though he did not say why DeSantis called her "this girl."

Seeing his comments, Ocasio-Cortez then tweeted her own response, writing, "Rep DeSantis, it seems you‘re confused as to 'whatever I am.' I am a Puerto Rican woman. It‘s strange you don’t know what that is, given that ~75,000 Puerto Ricans have relocated to Florida in the 10 mos since María. But I’m sure these new FL voters appreciate your comments!"

This "girl" is also a 28-year-old woman who could become the youngest Congresswoman ever. But yes, sure, doubt her all you want-that's what she counts on.
