I spent a far-too-long portion of my life as a non-shorts guy. I remember one particularly awful day, well over a decade ago, when I decided that despite the 90-degree heat and 90 percent humidity, the best thing to wear to a backyard barbecue in deep Brooklyn was a pair of A.P.C. jeans. They were nearly new, still crispy with starch and bleeding indigo all over my immediately sweaty legs. I was fucking miserable, and it showed. I'm still taunted about this ridiculous misstep to this day. And you know what? I deserve it. Because I could have—should have—been wearing shorts.

I started easing into Shorts Life a few years back, but over the last couple of WFH summers, I've fully embraced it. And it is glorious. Not only is the summer swelter 10,000 percent more manageable, I've come to appreciate the simple fact that shorts can—and do—look pretty fantastic. Provided, of course, that you're stocking up on the right shorts. And for summer 2021, that means less, "Hey, that'd look right at home in Nantucket" and more, "Pardon me, but can you point me to the closest trailhead?"

I've already talked (at length) about the fact that outdoors-inspired gear is ascendent right now, but perhaps nowhere is that more evident than in the world of shorts. You want something that's as breathable as it is rugged, and easy to move in, to boot. Something you could conceivably throw in a rucksack without noticing the extra weight. Something you could wear to scramble over a couple boulders on the way up a mountain—even if the furthest afield you'll actually be going is the bar down the block. Something like Alex Mill's pull-on shorts, made from Italian ripstop fabric that's both tough as nails and light as air.

And as it turns out, those very shorts are currently on sale at Huckberry. There are three colorways available—navy, khaki, and a high-octane tomato red—and all of 'em are 26 percent off. No matter which you choose, you'll get a couple of side pockets to hold your close-at-hand essentials, plus a zipper-secured back pocket. You'll also get a quick-drying, water-repellent fabric that resists abrasion, and easy-on, easy-off elasticized waistband with a colorful drawstring, and—most importantly—a one-way ticket to Shorts Life. It's good here. I promise. Come on in and enjoy yourself.
