Alex Jones and Marco Rubio Got into a Bonkers Fight at the Capitol

Infowars has fallen on bad times lately, what with all the major social-media companies finally realizing it was a bad look to keep giving a platform to an obnoxious conspiracy theorist who keeps skirting the line of threatening violence and insisting that grieving parents are paid actors. Alex Jones's show promptly lost millions of followers, which may have something to do with his latest desperate bid for attention.

After a meeting today that the Senate Intelligence Committee had with executives from Facebook and Twitter, Marco Rubio tried to address a group of reporters gathered in the Capitol. Unfortunately, he kept getting interrupted by Jones, because while the executives were there to talk about security for the upcoming election, Jones was much more interested in yelling about "shadow banning" and how social-media companies, working with liberal politicians, were trying to rob him of his freedom of speech. Or, as he eloquently put it, "Democrats are raping Republicans."

The exchange between the two is absolutely bonkers, with Jones calling Rubio a frat boy and asking if he's okay with attempts to "ban conservatism." Meanwhile, Rubio maintains an "I don't know her" attitude, at one point riffing, "Who is this clown, a heckler at a press gaggle?" But the bit that's really eye-popping is when Jones, for some reason, reaches out and touches Rubio on the shoulder, which the senator did not appreciate and made it very clear in a lot of cross-talk.

Rubio: Don’t touch me again, man. I’m asking you not to touch me again.

Jones: Well, sure, I just patted you nicely.

Rubio: I don’t want to be touched. I don’t know who you are.

Jones: Oh, you want me to get arrested?

Rubio: You’re not going to get arrested, man, I’ll take care of you myself.

The entire four-minute encounter is tense and bizarre, with Jones repeatedly saying that Rubio won't silence him and insisting that Infowars is "bigger than ever." We wouldn't wish a conversation with Alex Jones on anyone, but if anyone comes close to deserving it, that person is probably Marco Rubio.
