The Aldi Treat Shoppers Say Is One of the Store’s ‘Top 5 Items’

Aldi fans are an enthusiastic lot. Get them talking about seasonal fall popcorn or the new Aldi-branded gear drop and you might be in for a long conversation. Aldi's low prices and high-quality groceries have shoppers lining up at the doors, especially on Wednesdays when the Aldi Finds (the new products for the week) arrive.

One of the Aldi categories that fans are most enthusiastic about is chocolate. The brand has an extensive line of chocolate bars and other chocolate treats, many made with high-quality European chocolate. And there's one chocolate (and peanut butter) treat that comes up a lot with Aldi fans — and in the always-popping Aldi subreddit.

"I hate you guys so much," quipped u/SnooSprouts4944 in the online forum dedicated to the discount grocer.

Hate is a strong word. However, it's written with love in the almost always-friendly world of Aldi's subreddit (a rarity for the Internet in 2023). The poster has reason to love fellow shoppers, and the picture says it all. The poster bought a bag of Choceur Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups.

"I bought these and have been rampaging through them for two days," the poster said. "They are so good, but my diet is officially ruined. I blame you guys."

The poster added a smiley face before concluding, "Seriously, though, I see what the hype is about."

Redditors were unapologetic.

"We hate you too," said another, adding a heart emoji because tone gets lost on the World Wide Web. "Welcome to the dark side!"

Why Fans Adore Choceur Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

Just hearing about the Choceur Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups? One Redditor gave a primer.

"A creamier version of peanut butter," the person said. "Decent chocolate. And they come unwrapped, so much easier to consume. $3.99 for a bag, so they don't feel like too bad of a deal."

If you ask some Redditors, this poster is understating the dish — decent chocolate? Pfft. In fact, one hailed the Choceur Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups as a "top five" Aldi item.

Fans also dished on ways to make Aldi's peanut butter cups even better. Hint: Don't put them in a pantry or so-trendy snack drawer.

"I keep mine in the fridge," wrote one.

"Same here," agreed another. "They're even better cold!"

"They make it to the fridge?" asked another.

Others recommend turning down the temperature even lower.

"Try the freezer," a shopper advised. "Even better, [in my opinion]."

Speaking of comparisons, some posters gave takes on how they stacked up against other peanut butter cups on the market — including the so-bold Reese's. Redditors did not hold back.

"Reese's tastes burnt," declared one. "Sometimes, they don't, but usually they taste like burnt peanuts, especially around the holidays....Even my husband, who has the palate of a clod, noticed it. The chocolate on the Aldi's is clearly better quality as well."

"These remind me of how Reese’s cups used to be," someone else said. "Oh well, these are more cost-effective and tastier. Don’t fret about diet. These are worth it."

Trader Joe's is also home to a cult-favorite peanut butter cup — a dark chocolate variety made with cacao beans and slow-roasted, ground peanuts. It's pricier at $4.49. How does it fare against Aldi's?

"My mom and I were just commenting that we'd still take the TJ dark chocolate ones over these — good as they are," said one fan.

"The TJ dark choc ones are crack," wrote someone else. "I hope I never find them at Aldi."

Others are also actively part of the resistance.

"I'm sure I would love these, which is why I've never bought them," one person commented.

"The best and worst decision you’ve ever made," replied a fan.

"I’d have to buy two — one for home and one for the car ride home," said another.

"Stop it, devil," pleaded someone. "I don't need your temptations."

Another poster spoke the truth, writing, "Resistance is futile."
