Aldi Slashes Prices on 4th of July Cookout Essentials

Potentially controversial and unpopular opinion: Food is more important to 4th of July celebrations than fireworks.

There, I said it.

Some people have to steer clear of fireworks because they have small children or literal scaredy cats to look after. (My usually social feline friend runs for cover under my bed and stays there all night.) But food? We can all partake in BBQs and picnics.

The catch is the price. You may be able to walk to your local fireworks show or view it for free from your balcony or yard. In not-so-breaking news, food costs money. And we have bad news and good news. Bad news first. This economy. According to the American Farm Bureau Federation, the average consumer will spend $67.73 to host a 4th of July cookout. That's slightly down from last year—but it's still a significant chunk of change.

But here's the good news: Aldi is coming to the rescue with deals and a way to win bigger than hot-dog-eating legend Joey Chestnut this 4th of July. Here's what to know.

What's Aldi's 4th of July Sale?

Aldi's prices on traditional 4th of July favorites are 30 percent lower than the national average—a savings of $20.87. The flyer lists all the delicious deets. TL;DR: You can get all the fixings for the 4th for prices that'll be hard to come by at other chains. Some of the most eye-popping discounts will have carnivores swooning. Pork chops are down nearly $5 from $14.37 to $9.67 and a 2-pound chicken breast is 42 percent lower than the national average ($8.14 vs. $4.62).

But it's not just meat. You'll also save money on sides (potato salad), desserts (cookies and ice cream) and drinks (lemonade).
