This is What Aldi's $8 Rosé Tastes Like
It may feel like every person you walk past on the street is drinking a PSL, but let me tell you, rosé season is still alive and well. Need proof? Discount supermarket Aldi released its $8 award-wining rosé in the United States on Sept. 20.
The French-made wine is called Exquisite Collection Côtes de Provence Rosé, and it earned a silver medal at the International Wine Challenge in May. But until late September, you could only find the fruity and crisp wine in the U.K.
I could instantly smell the berry aroma as soon as I opened the bottle. Côtes De Provence is a stronger rosé with an ABV of 13 percent, and as a self-proclaimed rosé expert* (*someone who drinks rosé regularly at happy hour), I thought it was delicious, especially considering the price tag.
I decided to serve it to seven fellow rosé lovers to get their thoughts - and also to see how much they thought the wine cost. Here, they prove this Aldi rosé is a serious steal for wine lovers:
1. "I'd say this costs anywhere between $10 and $25. I say that because in my experience, cheap wine tastes better, and this one tastes pretty good. I'd rate it a 7.5 out of 10." - Asha
2. "It's not fruity or sweet and doesn't taste like a headache. However, it has a strong taste of alcohol. I give it a solid average score of 5 for those reasons and would guess it costs $15. I've definitely had $15 bottles of rosé that taste like this." - Brooke
3. "This rosé’s peachy nose hits your mouth and transforms your tongue into a breezy field of flowers when its bright and slightly tart finish spreads across your palate. I'd say it's $16 for a bottle and would rate it a 7 out of 10." - Mia
4. "I'd say this costs $10 and would give it a 7 out of 10. It wasn’t groundbreaking or anything, but definitely a solid rosé I could imagine myself drinking while watching the sun set on a summer evening. Plus, I started to feel a little tipsy after just a few sips - a win in my book!" - Laura
5. "I think this costs $15 a bottle, I rate it at a 6." - Eliza
6. "I can definitely taste that it's stronger. I'd give it a 5 out of 10, pretty average. I'm going to say it costs $11." - Katie
7. "I'd give this a 7 out of 10. A pretty mild flavor that feels closer to white than red, which I personally like, but I could see some people thinking it's bland. I'd say it's in the $14 range." - Ali
I think we can all agree that from here on out, rosé should only cost $8. Right?
