Albino & Preto Brings Hawaiian Culture With Sig Zane Designs Collaboration

For its latest collaboration, jiu-jitsu lifestyle label Albino & Preto has teamed up with Sig Zane Designs to celebrate Hawaiian art and culture. Dubbed "THE WARMUP," the Spring 2023 capsule collection serves as an introductory statement for further projects slated to drop between Albino & Preto and Sig Zane Designs.

Founded by Sig Zane, the Hawai'i native spent his life with the ocean as his playground, living in the rhythms of tide and wave, and sun and moon. A surfer, fisherman, hula dancer, and artist, nature has been at the heart of the cultural exponent from the beginning. Opening the doors to Sig Zane Designs in 1985 with his wife Nalani Kanakaʻole, now carried on by their son Kūhaʻo, every product and performance from Sig Zane Designs is a reflection of life on the islands, educating and sharing what they know about Hawaiian culture.

The Sig Zane Designs x Albino & Preto "THE WARMUP" capsule collection presents a NoGi set, rashguard and shorts, utilizing the latest ZW Program. Accompanied by a series of graphic T-shirts printed on A&P's proprietary basics, the styles are accented by a design featuring the "LIKO" pattern, a reference to the plant indigenous to the islands of Hawaii. "LIKO" is also a metaphor for "keiki," "buds" or figuratively "child," helping represent the youth entering a journey of discipline. The print itself is an Ohe Kapala representation of the plant, an ancient Hawaiian practice of carving bamboo stamps that are then used to adorn kapa fabrics.
