Alastair McKimm took to Instagram on the final day of New York Fashion Week to announce his departure from I-D Magazine after 10 years (including a brief hiatus before becoming editor-in-chief) with the publication. A new editor-in-chief has not been named.

"After five years as Fashion Director and five years as Editor-in-Chief, it feels like the perfect time to move on and turn the page on the next chapter," McKimm wrote alongside a slideshow of some of his most notable I-D covers.

McKimm has also worked as a stylist and creative director for many major clients — including Marc Jacobs on its campaign with Kim Kardashian and Gucci for a campaign with Billie Eilish.

The news comes three months after model Karlie Kloss bought the publication for an undisclosed amount from Vice Media, through her own company Bedford Media. With the purchase, Kloss became the magazine's Chief Executive Officer while McKimm saw his role expand (however briefly) from editor-in-chief to chief creative officer and global-editor-in-chief.

Business of Fashion reported that McKimm sent an internal note to staff that said his exit is "the best thing to do for I-D, Karlie and [his] own sanity." He continued, "I'm truly grateful that Karlie invested in I-D's legacy. I'm behind her 100% in what she wants to do and to that end I feel that stepping aside and opening the door for a new team is the way to go."

McKimm thanked those he worked with over the years in his Instagram post saying, "I'd like to thank my incredible team and collaborators for your inspiration, dedication, patience and trust. A special thanks to our founders, Terry and Tricia Jones. You changed my life and paved the way for so many of us in this industry. I look forward to the future of I-D."
