Alaska Community Raises Money for Shelter Dog to Get Life-Changing Cataract Surgery

This shelter dog has been through a lot in his short life, but things are finally looking up. George was surrendered to Juneau Animal Rescue (JAR) after he began to go blind from cataracts and became startled by his family's children. Even though they couldn't keep him, they wanted the best for him.

Cataract surgery for dogs can be costly, KINY radio reports, but that wasn't the only problem: the closest veterinarian who could do the surgery lived far away. Thankfully, the community rallied in support of the sweet dog.

Isn't this Standard Poodle such a gentleman? He's so handsome and seems to have so much love from the Juneau community. When Angela Noon and JAR set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for this poodle's cataract surgery, they never expected to raise the entire amount in less than one day!

In fact--his entire fundraising amount was exceeded. Only two days after Angela Noon created the fundraising page $7275 had been raised. That's almost a thousand dollars over the $6500 goal! Not only does this cover the cost of the surgery itself, but it also helps the animal shelter transfer George from Juneau to Palmer, Alaska, where the closest surgeon is.

As Angela explained in an update on the GoFundMe page, "All funds will go to Juneau Animal Rescue to pay for George's airfare, surgery, medications, and vet visits. Any additional funds will work to help other animals who need medical care through JAR's Second Chance Fund." That's amazing! Not only will George get the help he needs, but he'll help other shelter pets heal and thrive, too.
