Alan Moore Wants Royalties Sent to Black Lives Matter

Writer Alan Moore is responsible for some of the most beloved and profitable comic books ever, penning the likes of Watchmen, V for Vendetta, From Hell, and Batman: The Killing Joke. Now he’s asked for his share of those profits to be sent elsewhere.

That somewhere is the Black Lives Matter movement. Previously, Moore has refused money he’s been entitled to for adaptations of his work, and asked it to be divided between other people involved in the creative process. In a recent interview with The Telegraph, however, he says he “no longer wishes it to even be shared with them.”

“I don’t really feel, with the recent films, that they have stood by what I assumed were their original principles,” Moore said. “So I asked for DC Comics to send all of the money from any future TV series or films to Black Lives Matter.”

It’s down to DC whether it actually takes Moore up on his offer. They have no obligation to, of course, but then again, they’ll likely lose out on what Moore’s currently cooking up: an epic set of fantasy novels.

“They are actually about the real world in some ways, the changing nature of British society,” he says. While Moore is moving away from the comics world, he’s still clearly invested in how his towering back catalogue is being used.

Moore's not the only creator isolating himself from prior work. The upcoming Harry Potter HBO Max series doesn’t involve the franchise director.
