Celebrity colleagues are mourning the loss of Alan Arkin today.

The Oscar-winning actor, best known for his roles in Little Miss Sunshine and Argo, died yesterday, June 29, at his California residence at the age of 89.

His sons, Adam, Matthew, and Anthony, confirmed the news in a joint statement through Variety on June 30, writing, "Our father was a uniquely talented force of nature, both as an artist and a man. A loving husband, father, grand and great grandfather, he was adored and will be deeply missed."

As news spread, his industry friends took to social media with kind words of their own for the late star.

Jason Alexander called him "such a wonderful, original voice for comedy" and "a kind and generous soul." He continued, "I learned so much from watching him. And the laughs I got from his glorious work seem endless. May he rest well."

Comedian Paul Reiser shared on Twitter that he's been a fan of Arkin's since he was eight. "Getting to know him - and getting a laugh out of him - is a highlight of my life. RIP dear friend," he wrote.

He went on to share a photo of the two together as well, joking that he'd shaved his own head so they would match.

"Did ANYONE have the range Alan Arkin had?" Patton Oswalt asked, complimenting his ability to portray any mood.

Michael Douglas shared a photo of the pair on Instagram alongside a lengthy eulogy for his late friend. "Today we lost a wonderful actor whose intelligence, sense of comedy and consummate professionalism over the past 70 years has left an indelible mark on our industry," he wrote in part.

They starred opposite one another on Netflix's The Kominsky Method between 2018 and 2021.

John Cusack spent several tweets remembering his friend, sharing that he "counted each...day [he got to work with Arkin] to be the most treasured days highlights of being able to work in films."

In another post, he wrote, "I feel like he challenged me to be a better person just by sharing his insights into humans his wicked sense of humor, his intelligence and by his presence alone - what a guy."

Michael McKean also took up several tweets to share his thoughts, writing, "Charming, hilarious, and armed with a flawless bullshit detector, he was pure pleasure to be with....Nobody better, ever."
