For the past 50 years, anyone who wanted to shop from the store had to travel to Scottsboro, Alabama to do so.
Thanks to COVID-19 pushing everything online, Unclaimed Baggage announced its new e-commerce site on June 17.
Unclaimed Baggage— a retail company that buys, repurposes, recycles, and resells unclaimed baggage from the airlines—is now offering online shopping.
According to the website, “Unclaimed Baggage has purchasing agreements for unclaimed items—a fate realized by less than 0.03% of all checked luggage—with all domestic airlines and other travel and transportation companies. With five decades of experience processing large volumes of one-of-a-kind items, we maximize each item’s potential for a second life.”
All clothing is deep-cleaned, and electronics are hand-tested to ensure proper functioning. Once all is said and done, Unclaimed Baggage—a brick-and-mortar shop that’s attracted visitors from all over the world for the past 50 years—marks each item at up to 80 percent below retail value and luxury items are authenticated.
Once upon a time, only folks traveling through Scottsboro, Alabama—where Unclaimed Baggage’s 50,000-square-foot store is located—could shop the recycled picks. But now, thanks to Coronavirus pushing everything online, anyone can get in on the fun by simply clicking over to Unclaimed Baggage’s website and perusing the available picks.
“Front and center on the site are a curated selection of ‘Weird and Wonderful Finds’ that reflect the unique treasure hunting story of the brand,” reports a press release from the brand “Fascinating items include everything from a pole spear for spearfishing to Bavarian Lederhosen leather shorts, a trumpet, and exquisite jewelry.”
