Alabama Adoption Center Makes Plea to Help Find Animals Loving Homes Before Closing

The community first rallied around Alabama's Daphne Animal Shelter by supporting plans to build an all-new shelter facility. Now, the pet rescue is asking locals to spread the word about their adoptable pets.

The shelter is still caring for '8 dogs and several kittens' who are waiting for their forever homes, says NBC 15. Several adoption events are planned for the rest of the month, but there's a lot to do before the facility closes on May 29.

Although there's no word about the special event scheduled for May 20, it seems like the 'Yappy Hour' dog and cat adoption event went off without a hitch. The shelter's Facebook page keeps their followers up to date on adoptions, and it looks like there were at least two!

It's worth noting that adoption fees will be lowered throughout the month of May, so don't hesitate to browse the shelter's available pets if you live near Daphne. Once construction begins, notes NBC 15, the rescue's entire operations will be limited to "a kennel trailer, an office trailer, and a play yard." That doesn't sound like much space at all!

The shelter's current location--7145 Johnson Road in Daphne, Alabama--will also be the site of the renovated center. Construction is expected to take about a year, but we know it will be worth the wait. Luckily, there are several other local animal shelters that can lend a hand in the meantime.

"We are working closely with the Baldwin County Animal Shelter and local rescues,” Betsy Schneider, Director of Operations for the city, told NBC 15. “We have a great partnership and are thankful they have agreed to assist us."

All-in-all, there's a solid plan in place to care for any pet who still needs a place to go. But until construction begins, the rescue needs any help they can get finding homes for their adoptable pets.
