On Monday morning, Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb announced that "out of an abundance of caution" Al Roker and fellow third-hour regular Craig Melvin would be taking the morning off after NBC revealed a staffer from the third hour of the Today show tested positive for COVID-19. "Both are fine right now. They feel good, but caution is the order of the day," Savannah said.

NBC News president Noah Oppenheim said in a statement on Sunday that the unnamed staff member was experiencing "mild symptoms" and receiving treatment.

"We are fully supporting our colleague, who is experiencing mild symptoms and receiving medical care, and I know you join me in sending our very best for a quick recovery,'' Noah explained, adding that NBC is "taking all necessary steps to ensure the health and safety of our teams, which includes multiple deep cleanings of our offices, control room, and Studio 1A."

In light of the news, Al took to Twitter to let his fans know that he's doing okay. "Feeling fine. Don’t worry about us. Thinking about our colleagues and all those who are really suffering. And God Bless the health care providers and #FirstResponders helping," the Today star wrote. Sheinelle Jones tweeted heart emojis in response to Al's message.

Moreover, Craig tweeted that he was "feeling great" but was "thinking about our friend and colleague."

Given the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's guidelines about avoiding close contact with people, Today has already adopted a no-audience policy for both their morning show programs. The hosts have also started standing and sitting further apart from one another for precautionary purposes.

Today is far from the only TV show taking extra steps to prevent COVID-19's spread. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Price Is Right, Grey's Anatomy, and so many more have suspended tapings or delayed production altogether.
