There is officially a new grandpa in town!

Al Roker became a pop-pop for the first time on Monday, July 3, as his daughter Courtney Roker welcomed her first child with husband Wesley Laga.

The exciting family news was announced as part of the Today show on Tuesday, July 4, where Roker's colleagues shared the update on his behalf.

"Our own Al Roker has become a grandfather," said Today co-host Craig Melvin during Tuesday's broadcast. "His daughter Courtney and her husband Wes welcomed a baby girl yesterday."

Melvin then announced the sweet moniker Courtney and her husband picked out for their little one: Sky Clara Laga, which appears it could be a tribute to her dad, who famously serves as the weather anchor on the hit NBC show.

"Sky, a meteorological name, of course," said Melvin, while co-host Dylan Dreyer chimed in to say, "What a perfect name."

"Everyone's doing well," Melvin further stated, noting that the "family couldn't be happier" since welcoming their newest member.

"That's really cute that his first grandchild's name is Sky," said Sheinelle Jones. "How cute is that?"

"He was so excited for this, too," Dreyer added of Roker, adding, "You could just see the excitement when he talked about it."

The co-hosts then looked back at an older clip from the show taken in March, where Roker said he was going to be "the best grandpa ever."

"I'm going to do whatever I can to spoil this kid," he said at the time—so there is definitely no doubt Sky is already a very lucky grandchild!

Congratulations to Roker for becoming a pop-pop, and to the the new parents on welcoming their first baby!
