Sand Land Beelzebub mecha

Akira Toriyama – the creator of Dragon Ball – once wrote a short manga called Sand Land, and last year, it was announced that it was to be adapted into a video game. We’ve had dribs and drabs of information since, but now we’ve had a big blowout of information about the Sand Land game – including a release date.

A new trailer for Sand Land was released last night, and it showed off a host of neat scenes from the game, as well as a decent chunk of gameplay. The game is looking absolutely gorgeous, with a very manga-ish art style — in fact it looks pretty similar in style to One Piece Odyssey, another game from Sand Land developer ILCA. You may also know ILCA as the developer of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, which were serviceable remakes of one of the best Pokémon generations.

The new trailer shows us the land in which Beelzebub lives, completely free from water after a bomb wiped out the last of the world’s water supply. After some doom and gloom, we get introduced to a mysterious mechanic, Ann, who joins Beelzebub on his journey to find the legendary spring. She seems pretty cool, and is very skilled at what she does.

After that, we get a fun little montage of the world, which is a lot more varied than, y’know, just sand as the name implies. There’s lush cliff forests, gorgeous cliff faces, and even a lake. We also see a bunch of mecha gameplay, and it looks wildly varied. There seems to be a bunch of different types of mechs, from straightforward tank-style mechs to adorable little bipedal guys.

After that, we cut away to the big reveal: Sand Land will be released on April 26, 2024.

Sand Land will be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S (but not Xbox One), and PC. Bandai Namco sometimes brings its games to Switch after a while too, so we could see that, but by the time that’s likely to happen, we very well could have a Switch 2 anyway.
