Akiko Aoki RTW Spring 2018

A young designer with only a few seasons under her belt, Akiko Aoki is already proving herself to be one to watch in Tokyo. Her latest offering managed to be feminine, sexy, edgy and trendy all at once — something that is common in Tokyo street style but less so on the runways. She created dresses reminiscent of rain jackets, mixed lingerie with men’s wear stripes, and added asymmetry and deconstruction that was careful, deliberate and never over the top. Sheer fabrics, ruching, lace overlays and contrast lacing detailed largely monotone looks, and the show was capped off by a wonderfully weird and sculptural deconstructed corset.
