With their distinctive silver shells, Airstream trailers are some of the most easily recognizable vehicles on the road. The gleaming, polished aluminum look has served them well for nearly a century, and even when the company releases a new model, it still evokes that iconic style.

This week, Airstream did just that, launching the Basecamp 20. Described as a small camping trailer, it’s actually four feet longer than the earlier, 2016-model Basecamp. It’s also taller, meaning more headspace for anyone who might feel cramped in other trailers. It’s still got the rounded, teardrop-like shape that looks retro-futuristic and is aerodynamic, making it easy to tow behind a truck or SUV. And it now includes a panoramic window that wraps around almost the entire trailer, meaning wherever you are, you’ve got a view of the great outdoors.

The Basecamp 20 offers several different floorplans; all of them sleep four people, thanks to benches (which seat five) that convert into two separate beds, one large bed, or a combination of bed and benches. For cooking, there’s a two-burner gas stove, an electric refrigerator, and an optional microwave, along with a sink and grocery storage. (Yes, there is a spice rack.) The bathroom combines a shower, toilet, and sink all in one place, which is if nothing else an impressive bit of engineering.

Thinking about everything you might want to do in a travel trailer, 20 feet doesn’t sound like much space. But Airstream has taken feedback from its previous Basecamp model and devised some clever tricks to make the space more usable. A pair of adjustable tables offer entertaining space, or they can be used for getting work done on the road—or you can remove them entirely, freeing up even more space. A dinette table at the front of the trailer can also be turned into an extra lounging or sleeping area.

Finally, if you’re not planning to confine your camping adventures to the road, Airstream offers the Basecamp 20X, an off-road option with lifted suspension, larger tires, and stone guards.

If that sounds like your idea of a good time, the Airstream Basecamp 20 starts at $45,900.
