Airbnb Is Sending 2 People on a Glamorous Stay at the Real Downton Abbey

For the first time ever, it will be possible to stay overnight at Downton Abbey.

On Tuesday, Airbnb announced its newest (and perhaps most exciting) listing: Highclere Castle, where the beloved British series and upcoming film were shot.

Airbnb users can enter for a chance to win a one-night stay at Highclere Castle this fall through the home-sharing platform.

The winners will join the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon (the castle’s current residents) for cocktails in the saloon and dinner in the state dining room, both of which have been featured on “Downton Abbey.” After dinner, guests will have coffee in the library and then retire to one of the main bedrooms. The following morning includes breakfast and a private tour of the castle’s 1,000 acres.

“It’s an absolute privilege and pleasure to call Highclere Castle my home and I am delighted to be able to share it on Airbnb for a truly unique stay,” Lady Carnarvon said in a statement. “Highclere Castle has been in the Carnarvon family since 1679 and has an incredibly rich history. I am passionate about the stories and heritage of Highclere Castle, and I am looking forward to welcoming our future guests.”

There are just a few rules for the lucky winners: there is no smoking and no pets (although the castle already has nine dogs on site). There is no more than one butler per person and guests must wear cocktail dress to dinner. All newspapers must be ironed and there is no gossiping. That is “restricted to downstairs quarters only.”

The Highclere listing will open on Oct. 1 at 7 a.m. EST and will cost approximately $186 (£150). The stay will take place on Nov. 26. Set your alarms — unless you have a butler downstairs who will ring a bell to remind you.
