When I first got into fragrance, I believed the most coveted bottles were Byredo perfumes. Sure, Le Labo, Dior, and Chanel perfumes were sought after. But there was something about the sleek and minimal yet design-centric Byredo perfume bottle that I just had to have on my vanity. So when I became a beauty editor and finally could sniff them without abandon—even testing new scents before they launched—I suddenly found myself in a sea of the best Byredo perfumes. At this point, I know I've smelled and worn every single one of their cult-favorite perfumes, including the famed Mojave Ghost, Gypsy Water, and Bal D'Afrique. But I have thoughts on the best scents—and I'm sharing them all below with a full ranking, including the wear time and sillage for each scent.

Interested to know my top pick for the best Byredo perfume? Keep reading, plus a guide to choosing one for yourself if you're in the market for a new scent:

Mojave Ghost Eau de Parfum

There's a reason nearly ever fragrance lover has Mojave Ghost on their vanity: It's soft, fresh, hot, and woodsy—all in one. The sweet amber, fresh violet, and warm sandalwood and cedarwood notes pair perfectly to make the ideal "clean girl" scent that's light enough for daytime but still appropriate for a date night. It's one of my go-to signature scents of all time—it's that good.

  • Key notes: Amrette, violet, sandalwood, magnolia, amber, cedarwood

  • Size: 1.7, 3.4 oz

Glowing customer review: "Classic, hot, moody, amazing!!! I reach for it every day and have to stop myself because I don’t want to run out! Could easily be an everyday scent or a signature scent. Wears well in my opinion year round but, I’m biased! LOVE IT!"

Mixed Emotions Eau de Parfum

I love the crisp, cozy scent of fresh hot tea, and that's exactly the vibe I get from Mixed Emotions. But my favorite part about this fragrance is just how long it lasts. I can spritz it on in the morning, and I'll still catch whiffs of it as I'm washing my makeup off at night. Because of this, I constantly mix it with other perfumes in my collection (like Le Labo Thé Noir) to boost their warmth and freshness.

  • Key notes: Maté, black currant, black tea, birchwood, papyrus

  • Size: 1.7, 3.4 oz

Glowing customer review: "Initially smells like woodsy berries-I can imagine it’s the currant. The dry down smells of almost cozy warm tea. Really wearable scent. Leans on the feminine side in my opinion. Definitely one of my favorite all time Byredo scents now!"

Bal D'Afrique Eau de Parfum

Wanna smell like you just spent a week basking in incense in West Africa? That's Bal D'Afrique. It's bright and warm in the opening, but then has a smokey finish that feels a bit powdery and strong. If you love other cult faves like Replica Jazz Club and Fenty by Fenty, you'll prob get on with the depth and intensity of Bal D'Afrique.

  • Key notes: Bergamot, African marigold, violet, vetiver, cedarwood

  • Size: 1.7, 3.4 oz

Glowing customer review: "Amazing fragrance. It literally smells like an expensive, classy, warm hug! I would purchase this over and over again. A bit pricey but worth the cost."

Gypsy Water Eau De Parfum

I'd bet the first Byredo perfume that popped up on your IG feed was Gypsy Water—and I can see why. It's a majorly likable scent, with citrus, sweet, spicy, and earthy notes that blend so well together to smell happy and fresh. The grounding woodsiness pairs beautifully with those ultra-bright fruity notes in the opening, making it a really exciting scent without being powdery or soft at all. TBH, if you're gonna pick up any perfume from the brand without sniffing it first, def order this one.

  • Key notes: Bergamot, lemon, pepper, incense, pine needles, amber, vanilla, sandalwood

  • Size: 1.7, 3.4 oz

Glowing customer review: "It was a very pleasant smell. At first, I smell fresh citrus and floral, and then left with a subtle floral scent. A bit sweet but not overpowering."

Vanille Antique Extrait de Parfum

Byredo isn't on the ultra-sweet, food-like gourmand perfume trend just yet. Instead, their take on vanilla is much more mature. It's loaded with wood and musk notes that give this way more depth than a traditional gourmand, but the vanilla and cashmere add a creamy warmth that makes it so cozy. It's the grown-up version of a vanilla perfume, IMO.

  • Key notes: Vanilla, cashmere, wood, ciste, musk

  • Size: 1.7 oz

Glowing customer review: "As a 40-something, I love it. It’s mature and hot. It dries down to a warm woodsy, vanilla smell that people will comment on when they hug you. The initial scent can seem strong to some but the dry down is exquisite. I’ve had countless compliments since I purchased this."

Rouge Chaotique Eau de Parfum

I liken this scent to my grandma's lipstick from the '80s. It's got an herbal, powdery touch from patchouli, but majorly sweet and rich, thanks to plum and praline. I'm obsessed with spritzing this on before a date, because it smells ~sexy~ and cool. This is also one of Byredo's extraits, so it lasts extremely long on my skin too.

  • Key notes: Saffron, bergamot, plum, praline, patchouli

  • Size: 1.7 oz

Glowing customer review: "This is a one-of-a-kind fragrance and it has so many layers to it. I typically don’t like sweet fragrances but this one is sophisticated. Worth the price tag."

Sundazed Eau de Parfum

Summertime vibes, done the Byredo way—Sundazed smells like an afternoon treat on a hot day. It's loaded with citrus notes, but also combines cotton candy (!!) and musk for some extra sweet and saltiness. It's so balanced and light, but still has that classic Byredo intensity I love from their scents. FYI, though: When I saw cotton candy on the notes, I assumed this would be a straight gourmand, likening it to something like Skylar Boardwalk Delight, but it definitely is only the essence of cotton candy in here. It just adds a creamy sweetness to the fruity notes, IMO.

  • Key notes: Mandarin, lemon, neroli, cotton candy, musk

  • Size: 1.7 oz

Glowing customer review: "This is hands down my favorite summer scent and I have a fairly large and ever-growing collection of fragrances. This is citrus, floral, musky and sweet. It captures summer in a way that no other scent has for me. Cannot recommend enough especially since, for a citrus-forward fragrance, this has great performance!"

Young Rose Eau de Parfum

I'll be honest: I normally despise rose fragrances because I associate them with a powdery old woman (sry, grandma). But Young Rose is the exception, because it—quite literally—is rose for a younger generation. Thanks to the warm and salty musk and ambroxan notes, this rose perfume has an airy vibe without all the stuffiness I've come to expect with rose. It's a great scent to wear to the office or a board meeting, as it smells equally sophisticated and smooth but not too mature or strong.

  • Key notes: Ambrette, damask rose, iris, musk, ambroxan

  • Size: 1.7, 3.4 oz

Glowing customer review: "This is an underrated one from Byredo, not as well known as the others because it's newer but I love the dewy freshness, it's a photorealistic rose which makes it modern and fresh rather than stuffy or sickly, it makes me think of pink rosebuds opening up in the morning in a French landscaped garden. Staying power is better than I expected too!"

Blanche Eau de Parfum

How does "white" smell? Like musk, rose, and peony, according to Byredo. To me, Blanche smells like a clean, crisp white T-shirt that's been laundered in a fancy Italian detergent. It's a lil floral to add some crispness, but the musk, sandalwood, and aldehydes give it a lot more depth and richness. When I want to smell wealthy, I spritz on Blanche.

  • Key notes: Aldehydes, rose, pink pepper, peony, musk, sandalwood

  • Size: 1.7 oz

Glowing customer review: "This was a blind buy but I do not regret it! I was looking for a fresh, clean scent and read a ton of reviews on this one before deciding to purchase. It is everything I hoped it would be. Such a nice, clean, every day scent!"

<p><a href="https://go.redirectingat.com?id=74968X1596630&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nordstrom.com%2Fs%2F7235553&sref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cosmopolitan.com%2Fstyle-beauty%2Fbeauty%2Fg46907346%2Fbest-byredo-perfumes%2F" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" data-ylk="slk:Shop Now;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas" class="link ">Shop Now</a></p><p>Blanche Eau de Parfum</p><p>nordstrom.com</p><p>$205.00</p>

La Tulipe Eau de Parfum

I already know this is going to be one of my go-tos come springtime. It's so soft and light, but not soapy and scratchy to my nose. Let me be real for a sec tho: I would not say this necessarily smells like tulips. Instead, I get an overall green, fresh, floral vibe that's so pretty. I spritz this on and feel immediately transported to a botanical garden.

  • Key notes: Pink tulips, freesia, rhubarb, green notes, woody notes

  • Size: 1.7, 3.4 oz

Glowing customer review: "This smells like the air when Spring is finally here! It smells green and happy and above all, gentle and feminine. Yes, it isn’t a bomb of a perfume and yes, longevity is poor but sometimes, I don’t necessarily want to wear a perfume that announces my arrival. I just want to smell pretty and also discreet. La Tulipe is just what I need when I feel like being feminine and classy."

Velvet Haze Eau de Parfum

True story: I bought this years ago without ever smelling it because I love the name so much. It's giving chic, rich, '70s energy, and I'm here for it. Luckily, the scent inside is just as good. It's loaded with patchouli, which offers a lot of smokey, earthiness that reminds me of a cigar club. But it's also got a little airiness from coconut water and cotton musks that makes it a lil less dense.

  • Key notes: Ambrette, coconut water, patchouli leaves, cotton musks, wild musk

  • Size: 1.7 oz

Glowing customer review: "I think what the fragrance house of Byredo has created here is magic! It’s an elevated, creamy, and seductive scent that’s not overwhelming which is sooooo important. I would say that creative type personalities would enjoy this scent, and, it may be a stretch, but the scent could facilitate, or at least inspire, further creativity."

Rose of No Man's Land Eau De Parfum

If you love a classic, O.G. kinda perfume, you're gonna love Rose of No Man's Land, which features a v strong rose aroma. It's very powdery, but warm amber and sweet raspberry give it a well-rounded, full-bodied scent. It's like an updated version of what I imagine my ancestors wore on their wedding day—soft and subtle yet so beautiful and chic.

  • Key notes: Turkey red rose, pink pepper, raspberry bloom, papyrus, amber

  • Size: 1.7 oz

Glowing customer review: "Normally, I would not wear a fragrance that smells of roses as it can often be too intense or cloying. Instead, this Byredo Eau de Parfum is beautifully subtle. I find it is my everyday go-to perfume because of this. I love it so much that I have given it as a gift."

<p><a href="https://go.redirectingat.com?id=74968X1596630&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.violetgrey.com%2Fen-us%2Fshopping%2Frose-of-no-mans-land-eau-de-parfum-19648641&sref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cosmopolitan.com%2Fstyle-beauty%2Fbeauty%2Fg46907346%2Fbest-byredo-perfumes%2F" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" data-ylk="slk:Shop Now;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas" class="link ">Shop Now</a></p><p>Rose of No Man's Land Eau De Parfum</p><p>violetgrey.com</p><p>$290.00</p>

How to choose the best Byredo perfume for you:

Assess your vibe.

If you're gonna spend $$$ on a perfume, you should obviously opt for one that fits your scent vibes. Do you tend to go for floral perfumes? Then, you'll probably really love one of Byredo's florals, like Rose of No Man's Land or La Tulipe. Or you could even opt for a warm or sweet scent that has a few floral notes, like Blanche. But if you tend to go for more gourmand perfumes, you'll probably prefer a scent like Rouge Chaotique or Vanille Antique.

Consider the intensity level.

Byredo offers two types of perfumes: Eau de parfum and extrait de parfum, with the extraits being the most intense and long-lasting. If you like a really strong scent that's going to have a major projection and lasting power, you'll probably prefer the extraits. However, if perfumes often give you a headache, then def go for the eau de parfum. In my experience, Byredo's eau de parfums still have around eight hours of longevity and a decent sillage.
