‘AGT’ Judge Simon Cowell Gave an Important Health Update After His Second Accident

America’s Got Talent is rolling out the red carpet for season 17, and the NBC competition show is welcoming back judges Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Sofia Vergara.
Folks tuning in may notice that Simon is sporting a different look for the season 17 premiere with a black and grey cast. So, what happened to Simon and why is he wearing a cast on his hand? On January 24, the AGT executive producer was riding his electric bike near his home in London when he crashed and broke his arm. The news surfaced several days later on February 1 when The Sun reported that Simon had not been wearing a helmet at the time. As fans may know, he was involved in a previous bike accident in August 2020. After that incident, he broke his back in three different places and had to undergo a lengthy surgery.
“Simon is lucky to be alive,” a source told The Sun. “He was pedaling along, with his electric motor on, when the wheels suddenly went from under him after hitting a wet patch. He slipped and went flying over the handlebars into the middle of the road.”
They continued: “Three kindly passers-by jumped into action, and stopped the traffic so he wouldn’t be run over. After being ambulanced to [a] hospital and given an X-ray, Simon was eventually released that evening — his arm in a yellow cast all the way up to the shoulder — and told to rest.”
Shortly after, Daily Mail caught up with Simon while out with his fiancée Lauren Silverman. “I'm OK. I'm feeling much better thank you,” he told the publication on February 2. “I'm a bit of a nutter. I'll definitely wear a helmet next time.”
About a month into his recovery, Simon opened up to Extra and shared a similar account. The U.K. native revealed that after crashing, he still managed to get help on his own. He also revealed that one of his teeth fell out while eating peanut brittle, and he tested positive for COVID-19 in the span of the same week.
“I was riding my bike … I went around a corner too fast,” he told the outlet, per Page Six. “That was it, knocked myself out. There were some people nearby, thank God, so they stopped the traffic … I was in a bit of a daze … I got back on my bike and drove one-armed back to the house. That’s how nutty I was.”
While the music mogul hasn’t addressed his second bike accident on social media, fellow AGT judge Sofia has shared glimpses of Simon on the NBC show donning a smaller cast. What’s more, the Modern Family actress hinted that even though Simon is still on the mend, she hasn’t shied away from poking fun at him.
